SLAM confirmed as BMW ORACLE Racing official apparel supplier.

BMW Oracle RacingBMW ORACLE Racing today said it is very pleased to confirm that SLAM is joining the team for its America’s Cup challenge. A leader in technology for sailing clothing, the Italian company will be the team’s official supplier of apparel.

The relationship was confirmed today on Monte Baldo, overlooking Lake Garda in Italy, during a press conference also announcing the RC 44 Malcesine SLAM Cup. Founded in Genoa in 1979, SLAM is well established in the wider sportswear sector; as well as producing high quality technology clothes aimed at top competitors.

Carla Gardino, SLAM President, said SLAM was extremely proud to have been chosen by BMW ORACLE Racing as their official team supplier. "This is an exciting opportunity for us to research and engineer new high performance, technical clothing," she said. "Racing on multihulls, in particular, will require new high-tech clothing solutions that SLAM’s Research and Development division is already testing at regattas around the world.

"Materials we are developing created from fabrics using nanotechnology are offering outstanding performance characteristics. In terms of what will be needed on board these multihulls, these new materials will offer huge gains in aerodynamics, ergonomics, breathability, strength and quick-dry properties."

SLAM has always focused on product innovation, preserving their founding pioneering spirit in exploring new ways to develop cutting edge materials and constantly improve the quality of sailing clothing products.

The creation of SLAM clothing has always been based on sailors’ experience in regattas. Materials and design ideas for jackets, trousers, polo shirts, sweaters and shoes are regularly tested at sea by members of the various SLAM Sailing Teams involved in competitions all over the world.

The brand's mission for competition excellence dates from the 1980 Moscow Olympics, when the Italians Gorla and Alfio Peraboni won a bronze medal in the Star class wearing the newly-formed company’s sailing apparel.
